Naomi Kalu , a Sheba Arts' Talent Development Artist for 2023-24, is a 20 year-old two times national and international Champion boxer and singer who plays the guitar, piano, and drums. She has composed original tracks for various Sheba Festivals and was commissioned by Sheba Arts to perform alongside Hamza Ensemble at Oldham Library in 2023.
Using her time as our artist in residence, she worked with Clive Hunte as mentor and attended various sessions with artists and Sheba staff members to build skills and connections. Sheba House Band was formed to support Naomi for her major gig at Band On The Wall on the 9th of June 2024. Naomi performed a selection of selection of tracks from her debut album and received glowing feedback from the audience. Milana Bout a young artist and our member, played flout as the supporting act.

What Naomi say about her experience working with us?
'Sheba Arts created a safe space for everyone to express themselves freely whilst maintaining structure and consistency. This programme and the final sharing helped me to establish my name and pushed me to play more in open mics and other events which improved my network. It enabled me to play with a band for the fist time and learn the dynamics of this.'
