Gardens of Babylon
2019 -2020
Garden of Babylon is a preliminary study into the heritage of Iranian and Kurdish communities across Greater Manchester. We interviewed four individuals from these communities in order to gather information about their lived experiences in their home country and in the UK. Of particular value are the stories, anecdotes, family traditions, songs, lullabies, and information associated with pictures, and documents. We share those melodies, songs, and poems with the second generation of Kurds and Iranians through music and poetry workshops.
The name of the project refers to a past civilisation in Mesopotamia that traces back to the Babylonian Empire of 1894 BC.
This is a documentary about the project, the people we interviewed, and the two workshops we ran for Iranian and Kurdish children.
